Milwaukee Art Museum
Perhaps better known as a city landmark than by what it contains, Milwaukee Art Museum is as much a major art facility as it is a work of art, itself. The $100 million Quadracci Pavilion was completed in 2001, and features a remarkable wing-shaped brise soleil that moves to shade the building from the sun during the day, and can be folded over or “closed” during stronger weather. While the Museum has come to be known for this remarkable structure, the Quadracci Pavilion is actually just one of the buildings that it operates. The War Memorial Center is the other main building, and there is a garden – Cudahy Gardens, which combines several gardens, fountains, plazas and other landscaped terrain. The museum’s collection includes more than 25,000 works including definitive works from the Old Masters, German Expressionism, 19th & 20th century artwork, different forms of American art and much more. On top of its massive collection, the Museum also hosts various temporary and traveling exhibits throughout each year, complimenting and contrasting its collection with everything from modern art to the classics. As far as art goes, it doesn’t get much better than Milwaukee Art Museum!
